The Vermont International Film Festival (VTIFF) started its viewings Friday, October 20th, and will continue until the following Sunday, October 29th. As a home for creativity, Burlington offers a variety of opportunities to experience all kinds of art forms. VTIFF offers a selection of independent films for semi-public viewing. One of Champlain’s own, Ryan Dunlevy, cut the trailer for this year’s events, encapsulating the general idea for this year’s films. The goal of VTIFF is to gather an understanding of cinema and an appreciation of the art form, present a diverse and inclusive range of films, and, naturally, bring people together.
The first showing takes place at UVM Recital Hall right in Burlington, located at the college’s Redstone campus at 5:30 pm. The rest of the showings take place at varying locations on the Main Street Landing. Further information about locations of, titles of films, and times for showings can be found here.
Ticket prices vary based on package. Festival passes go for $150 for a single package and $250 for a dual package. The standard ticket package is $95 and guarantees ten shows for your choosing. For an additional purchase, festival goers can access the special events of Night of Noir and Food, Film & Friendship. For students, VTIFF offers a discount, located under festival packages for $60.
VTIFF provides viewers with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with different areas of film- as well as the people behind them. It’s a time to learn about new experiences- and to experience the world through someone else’s eyes. While the importance of each film is to be determined by the director- the watcher provides feedback and sparks intellectual conversation about what goes on in the film. Discussion is the introduction to something greater, which is the most important aspect of creation.
